What are the characteristics of a profile feature interview?

A profile feature interview is a mini biography of a person. The profile feature interview revolves around a 'hook', which is the reason why the reader should be interested in the person right now.

A profile feature interview tries to throw light on a person's character. It tries to access emotions, reveal attitudes, draw a realistic portrait by referencing mannerisms or habits. It is also intended to be entertaining and informative.

A profile feature interview uses direct quotes and descriptive language to create a vivid picture of a person.

Recommended sources:

Analyse and discuss:

Work in a group.

Pop music often focuses on intense relationships, but where do we draw the line between being persistent and being a stalker? Where is the line between loving someone so much you want to be with them all the time and wanting power and dominance over them, even turning to violence to get it?

Claims have been made that the songs you will find in the box below cross these lines. Divide the songs between the members of the group. Find the lyrics on the internet and study them closely.

Present the songs in the group and discuss:

  1. Do the songs cross the line? Are they a description of violence and obsession rather than a description of an intense relationship?

  2. Is there a difference between a song that tells a story about a criminal act and a song that explicitly or implicitly expresses a desire to harm someone?

  3. Does the mood of the music fit the mood of the lyrics?

  4. Can you think of other songs that can be regarded as crossing this line?

  5. Do you think it is likely that listening to a lot of songs like these will influence our view of relationships? Give reasons for your opinion.

Songs and artists:

'Run for Your Life': The Beatles

'Every Breath You Take': The Police

'Love the Way You Lie': Eminem and Rihanna

'Ultraviolence': Lana Del Rey

'Where the Wild Roses Grow', Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds featuring Kylie Minogue

'Bloody Mary': Lady Gaga

Write:

Pick one of the tasks and write a longer text.

  1. Write a blog post about what you believe an ideal relationship should be like.

  2. Should songs that promote violence in relationships be banned from the airwaves? Write a letter to the editor where you discuss this question, referring to examples of songs.

  3. Write a speech where you discuss what can be done to prevent partner violence.

  4. Write a short story about someone who has to overcome a great challenge.
