Computer Games

In this task, you will study a computer game, or a computer game series, in depth.

For this project you should choose a computer game that has a complex narrative and varied gameplay, for example an open world game. Make sure you choose a game that you have access to, so that you can draw on your own experiences in the analysis.

What to include:

  • the history/development of the game

  • an analysis of the game. Pay special attention to narrative and gameplay. (In related content below, you will find an article about analysing computer games.)

  • the moral/message of the game

  • a discussion of the game's place in popular culture

  • If the game is part of a series, how has the game developed over time?

Also discuss one of the following topics:

  • Is the game useful for learning or improving English language skills?

  • What place do computer games have in teen culture?

Suggested games:
  • Assassin's Creed series, with main focus on Assassin's Creed Valhalla (Ubisoft Montreal)

  • Fallout series (Interplay Entertainment)

  • The Legend of Zelda series (Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka)

  • Death Stranding (Kojima Productions)

  • Elden Ring (FromSoftware)

  • Sea of Thieves (Rare)
