Rhythm (advanced)

Rhythm refers to the regular beat of the words in a poem. It is also a pattern the poet has arranged by way of stressed and unstressed syllables. Meter is counted in sets of two syllables, known as a foot.

Rhyme

Words rhyme when their ending sounds are repeated either at the end of a line, "end rhyme" or within the line which is called "internal rhyme".

Study an example of end rhyme in the poem There Will Come Soft Rains by Sarah Teasdale

"There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;…”

Study an example of internal rhyme in the poem Changes by Tupac Shakur
“…and only time we chill is when we kill each other it takes skill to be real, time to heal each other…”
