A Young Approach to Biographies - Resources
We asked an English Social Studies class at Skien Upper Secondary School the following question:
Who are the most memorable and influential persons in the last two hundred years? Choose a person that has played a role in the English-speaking world or globally, and who has accomplished something you admire. Give reasons for your choice and show how you, as a young person, would approach the task of finding out more about his/her life.
Below you will find links to teaching resources based on the lives of some of the people the students found memorable and interesting.
- Elvis Aaron Presley
The students gave the following reason for choosing Elvis
We chose Elvis Presley because he was a famous idol for many. It is amazing that a regular boy can become this famous, and be recognized by many long after his death. Even though he died before we were born, we have listened to many of his songs. The fact that his songs are still played a lot, shows that he was a great musician and a legend that will never be forgotten. He still has a lot of fans, and museums raised to memorize and honor him all over the world.
- David Beckham - a Football Legend
- Rosa Parks - a Voice Heard
- Bill Gates - a Modern Day Renaissance Man?
- Nelson Mandela - A Great Man Has Passed Into History
- Alice Munro - Writing Her Life
